Tableau Connection

Tableau is a BI solution software and advanced data visualization tool. Tableau provides 6 products: Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Mobile, Tableau Online, Tableau Public and Tableau Reader. It also provides various connectors. Machbase uses Web Data Connector method to connect with Tableau in order to bring data in JSON format via RESTful API.

Install Tableau Desktop

Download and install Tableau Desktop from the website below. 14 day free trial is available, but for further use, it is recommended to buy the license. http://www.tableau.com/products/desktop

Execute Python Flask Server

Execute Python Flask Server on the server where Machbase is installed as it uses RESTful API. It can be found in $MACHBASE_HOME/webadmin/flask directory and can be executed with the command below.

$ cd $MACHBASE_HOME/webadmin/flask
$ ./MWAserver start

Access the website below to check whether RESTful API is properly operating.

http://<Server IP Address>:5001/tableau

On a general web browser, when click "Submit" button, it doesn't display the result values on the screen. However, at the time of clicking "Submit" button, result values can be sent to Tableau if both Web Data Connector and Tableau are activated.

Web Data Connector

To execute Machbase Web Data Connector, simply follow the steps below.

  • Run Tableau on the desktop and click Web Data Connector.
  • Type in the URL address (http://:5001/tableau) of a server where Machbase is installed in a pop-up window.
  • Choose the table that you want to connect from a list of table.
  • Specify the time period to search data.
  • Specify the maximum number of data to search.
  • Click Submit button and it will be completed after a while.

The user can fetch data directly by issuing SQL query if Custom tab is selected.
